  • Evaluating Your Way to Improvement

Well, here goes nothing... my first blog post! Also the first time I created a unique evaluation for the programming board... The evaluation targeted the different goals we set out to accomplish this fiscal year. It proved to be pretty handy. We got all 4 out of 5's from the 35 members that make up our organization on campus and were reminded that there's always room for improvement! The evaluation was 2 pages long and consisted of 10 questions regarding areas such as communication, personal/leadership development, marketing, accountability and overall growth. It was formatted so that scores...
  • High-tech student travel

Have any of you struggled with how to just bring a small number of your programming board students to a conference and make sure that their experiences get translated back home to the larger group? Related to that question, have you ever been challenged by traveling with a group of students who may or may not know each other when you struggle to "keep track" of everyone on-site? The BSC delegation was rolling high-tech at this year's NACA Northeast and I was so impressed with how well these tools worked out in addressing these issues. I wish I could take credit for these great ideas...
  • Thoughts from a Newbie Professional

Last week marked my fourth NACA Northeast Regional Conference. This may seem like nothing to some NACA veterans =), but I’m looking forward to a career-full more of regional and national conferences in the future. Conference number four was a highlight for me as it was my first as a professional and programming board advisor. I’m a first year graduate student in the University of Vermont’s Higher Education & Student Affairs program. I have my dream assistantship working with the UVM Program Board as the Graduate Assistant for Campus Programs. In my position, I work alongside...

  • Automatic Audience: a New Moon Buy-out

Well, if you're anything like me--I mean...my students, you were really excited to see the new installment of the Twilight Trilogy this past weekend. The Associated Students of Westminster College (ASWC) are always looking for ways to get out non traditional students involved, but we like to try to find ways to mingle those students with our usual event attendees, as well. Bada boom! A movie buy-out! We work about a month in advance with a local theater and buy out an entire screening (385 seats this time around) for just our students. Though we pay the face value ($8) for each ticket, we sell...
  • Fashion Modeling and Campus Activities have something in common!

MY FIRST BLOG POST! (smashing a virtual bottle of champagne to christen the new site!) Another NACA Northeast conference is in the history books and I have finally survived the "re-entry" into the real world on campus and can reflect on my experience without falling asleep. Each year I always love that the regional conferences come at just the right time... right after I start to wonder if I can make it through yet another semester and right before I get completely crazy with stress. It's perfect - just the right energy to help me not only survive but thrive until it's time to...

  • Who We Are

The Campus Activities Network (or CAN) was started by the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) to build on the current online discussions about campus activities. With professionals and students spending more and more time online talking about events, program planning, professional development and everything else you do crammed into each week, we thought to ourselves, "Why not have one location online where everything campus activities related can be discussed?" Bingo. The Campus Activities Network was born. CAN wants everyone who has anything to do with campus activities...
